The Karoo-Hoogland Heritage Weekend 2007

Child of the Karoo-Hoogland

The people of the Karoo-Hoogland (comprising the towns of Sutherland, Fraserburg and Williston, as well as SALT and the SAAO) invite you to join us in September for the Heritage Weekend celebrations!

Events and activities are planned in all three towns that will make this region the "place to go" this September!

Heritage day falls on Monday 24th September 2007 and we've declared the whole long weekend from Friday evening 21st to 24th the Karoo-Hoogland Heritage Weekend!

The plans are taking shape with each of the towns preparing for the celebrations. There will be focus days for each of the towns as follows (click on the town to get an idea of their programme):

Friday 21st: Sutherland

Saturday 22nd: Fraserburg

Sunday 23rd: Williston

Monday 24th: Sutherland

These focus days will enable visitors to make a weekend loop of the Karoo-Hoogland, enjoying the open landscapes during the drives, with activities at each stop. Click on each town for an idea of their programme. Tourism information about the Karoo-Hoogland available at

About Heritage Day:

"The day is one of our newly created public holidays and its significance rests in recognising aspects of South African culture which are both tangible and difficult to pin down: creative expression, our historical inheritance, language, the food we eat as well as the land in which we live."
